Nature At The Confluence to Host Presentation on Ho-Chunk Storytelling

Nature At The Confluence will host Ho-Chunk elder Gerald Savage on Saturday, September 7, 2024 at 1:00 pm. Gerald’s topic Native American Story Telling is a program sponsored by Illinois Humanities; and hosted by Nature At The Confluence on traditional Ho-Chunk Land. Gerald is a 2024 Illinois Humanities Road Scholar Speaker. Gerald’s formal native name is Ho-Chunk Ska Ga (White Winnebago) and is a tribal elder with the Ho-Chunk Nation. He will briefly discuss the reintroduction of his family into Illinois and who he is and how he came to be. Gerald’s grandparents were Chief Walks with the Wind and Princess Stands on a Cloud. They were very influential in the teaching of Gerald the native customs and ways. He carries on his grandfather’s tradition of teaching people about their tribal ways and storytelling. His program is a verbal, storytelling event which historically would be normally held in months of December through February.

The event is free and open to the public, and great for audiences of all ages. Indoor space is limited, so please RSVP at natureattheconfluence.com. This program is part of Beloit Heritage Days, a weekend long celebration of Beloit area history and people. This event is co-presented by the Illinois Humanities Road Scholars Speakers Bureau. Road Scholar speakers travel throughout Illinois sharing free, dynamic presentations about literature, philosophy, theater, local history, film, music, politics, and more, at no cost to host organizations. The program enables local nonprofit organizations to present free-admission cultural programs to their communities.

“Native American Storytelling” will take place at Nature At The Confluence on September 7, 2024 from 1:00-2:30 pm and general admission is free.
