Friday night Hononegah will play the first of its three big rivals this season. First up is undefeated Harlem.
The Indians are giving up just 7 points a contest while scoring 48 per. Senior Curt Smith leads on both sides of the ball. Smith has 153 yards running and has scored three TDs on the ground. On defense, he leads the way with 11 tackles (please keep in mind that he isn’t playing a full game due to lopsided scores).
The Harlem Huskies are under the leadership again of Jim Morrow. He has a strong running game with 5’ 7” senior Jahmani Muhammad who is within 500 yards of the NIC 10 conference all-time rushing record.
With both teams sitting on top of the NIC 10 with Belvidere North, this should be a good measuring stick as to where each team and program is. As any player or coach, you don’t want to lose but you would like to be pushed a bit to see what you have in the tank.
I expect a strong defense from the Indians and an improving passing game to help them in this game. Hononegah again will have the edge on special teams with Smith at kicker and playing kickoff trying to pin the Huskies deep.
Game time is 7 p.m. at Harlem. Please allow more time to get into the game as Harlem has some updated security policies in place moving forward starting Friday. For more information about the updates go to the Huskies Nation Facebook page.
