Agendas focus on police, infrastructure, and community projects this week

Village officials in Roscoe, Rockton, and South Beloit will gather to address various community topics from August 19-21, 2024. South Beloit City Council meets on Monday, while the Rockton and Roscoe Board of Trustees meet on Tuesday. Roscoe Township has also rescheduled a meeting for Tuesday. Here’s a summary of the key items on their agendas:

South Beloit: community and zoning issues

South Beloit officials will meet on Monday, August 19 and Wednesday, August 21, 2024.

  • The City Council will meet on August 19 at 5 p.m. at City Hall and via Zoom to approve claims, receive a certification from Rockford Police Chief Carla Redd, and discuss partnerships with Keep Northern Illinois Beautiful. They will also vote on a bid from Green Demo for $1,348,000 to demolish the Garden Hotel at 200 Dearborn Avenue, a professional services agreement with Fehr-Graham to prepare the 2024 IDNR OSLAD Grant, funding for Nature at the Confluence, and hiring new police officers and seasonal parks employees. An executive session will follow to discuss collective negotiating matters.
  • On August 21 at 6 p.m., the Zoning Board of Appeals and Planning Commission will review zoning requests, including map amendments and special use permits.

Roscoe: police department, infrastructure, and community projects

The Village of Roscoe will hold two meetings on Tuesday, August 20, 2024.

Rockton: equipment purchases and infrastructure updates

The Village of Rockton will hold meetings on August 19 and 20, 2024.

  • The Board of Trustees on Tuesday will discuss ordinances related to fire hydrant usage, zoning variances, appointments to the Zoning Board of Appeals, and committee updates.
  • The Administration Committee will consider Village Hall security measures, defibrillators for the police department, and a draft of the Acceptable Use Policy.
  • The Public Works Committee will vote on purchase requisitions, including a screw assembly for the sewer plant, HVAC installation for the Parks Department, and a new Chevrolet Silverado.
  • The Budget & Finance Committee will review warrants and payment recommendations. 

Roscoe Township: renovations

  • Roscoe Township trustees will be discussing renovation expenses for the Robert Cross House at their rescheduled meeting [PDF] on Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2024 at 7 p.m. They  will decide whether the Township should spend $16,565 for replacement windows for the Cross House and garage and $35,000 for masonry repairs for the front of the Cross House and the stoop. Trustees are also expected to approve the 2024 RTHS Heritage Honoree proclamation, which is usually made at the Roscoe Fall Festival, and review Requests for Proposal (RFPs) for roof repair/replacement for Township offices and shop.
