Learn about candidates, join the parade, be a blood donor

A new week for news from Roscoe, South Beloit, and Rockton, sent by Rockton-Roscoe News each morning at 6 a.m. to our free subscribers. If you're not one, please subscribe.
- Tomorrow, Tuesday, April 1, 2025, there will be actively contested local elections at polling centers throughout the area. To learn about the candidates before you vote, you can use our expanded 2025 Voters Guide, covering the Village of Roscoe, Village of Rockton, Hononegah School Board, South Beloit School Board, Talcott Library board, and more. For some voters, faith and partisanship are flashpoints, and we'll have a story later today about how the candidates feel about those issues. One of the most interesting races: after eight years of being an assistant, Dawn Cassady is running against her boss, Bob Nowicki, hoping to snag his job as Roscoe Township Supervisor. And wouldn't you know it, I'm friends with both of them and hear both sides.
- The Roscoe VFW says, "Last year’s VFW sponsored Memorial Day parade was a great success. We are determined to make this year’s parade even better. If your group, organization or company wish to march with us in this year’s
parade [on Monday, May 26], please contact the Roscoe VFW at (815) 623-7663. The Veterans of Foreign Wars is a non-profit, non-political organization that advocates for veterans and their families. We ask that anybody or business marching in the parade display a patriotic theme and refrain from any political messaging." - The Rock River Valley Blood Center reports that hospitals in our community have seen an extreme surge in blood usage, and the blood center is struggling to keep up its supply for patients in need, such as accident victims, cancer patients, and those undergoing surgeries. They also have an extreme need for platelets. If you are able to donate, you can call (815) 965-8751 to make an appointment.
