Jim Solchenberger retired from railroad, enjoyed fixing things

James “Jim” Peter Solchenberger, 71, of Roscoe, passed away September 24, 2021. He was born August 6, 1950 in Blue Mounds, WI, the son of Peter Mathew Solchenberger and Maude Lorraine Shields. Jim married Melissa Mundy on March 30, 1972 in Sycamore. He was employed as a carman for Chicago Northwestern Railroad, and he worked well into his “retirement,” as a handyman. Jim enjoyed fishing, listening to music, playing poker and Hearts, and fixing things. He loved his cat, Ugly. Most of all, Jim enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

Survivors include wife, Melissa Solchenberger; children, Clayton (Stephanie) Solchenberger, Chelsie (Matthew) Wandell; grandchildren, Gabriel, Dylan, Gavin, Harper, Hannah, Genevieve; sisters, Janice (Ken) Anderson, Linda (Chuck) Morrow, Diane Johns, Dawn (Larry) Thomas; brothers, Ervin Solchenberger, Larry Solchenberger, Ray Fiske, Jr.; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by parents; sisters, Donna Solchenberger, Judith (Jim) Hughart; brothers, Dennis Solchenberger, Ralph (Edith) Solchenberger; and stepfather, Raymond Fiske.

Visitation will be held from 5:00–7:00 p.m. Thursday, September 30, 2021 in Honquest Family Funeral Home with Crematory – Roscoe Chapel, 11342 Main Street, Roscoe. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 1, 2021 in Roscoe United Methodist Church, 10816 Main Street, Roscoe with visitation from 10:00 a.m. until time of service in the church. Private burial in Highland Garden of Memories, Belvidere. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Glioblastoma Foundation.
