The event was organized through the efforts of Max Miller, promoter for the blood drive, who helped coordinate the event with Dave Christensen, Quartermaster of the VFW Post 11019, Adjutant for the American Legion and local veterans organization members. The Rock River Valley Blood Center bloodmobile was on site throughout the day, giving residents an opportunity to donate blood and help save lives.

Community support was strong, with 22 people showing up to participate. The blood drive resulted in 16 units of blood collected, while five potential donors were deferred, primarily due to low iron levels.

The Rock River Valley Blood Center team worked steadily throughout the day to assist donors, complete screenings and collect donations.

Staff members included Nolan, Jodie, Gabby, Kiely, Brandy and Marya. Dave Barrie, driver of the bloodmobile, helped make sure the mobile unit was ready and available for the event.

For the VFW and American Legion, the blood drive was another example of veterans continuing to serve their community.

“This is what our organizations are about,” organizers said. “Veterans, families, neighbors and community members coming together for a cause that can truly save lives.”
Organizers thanked everyone who donated, helped promote the event, volunteered, or stopped by to support the effort. The success of the blood drive showed the strength of the South Beloit community and the impact that can happen when people come together with a shared purpose.

Together, VFW Post 11019, the South Beloit American Legion, Rock River Valley Blood Center and the community helped make a lifesaving difference.
