Museum openings, small district conference

Sunday's news from Rockton-Roscoe News, with stories from Roscoe, Rockton, and South Beloit.
- This week Rockton Township Historical Society is opening their museum for regular seasonal hours, each Saturday 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. During April, May and June they are featuring the vintage quilts in our collection. A printed guide will be available for you to go through the museum and learn about the different patterns and the histories of the quilts. They are also raffling off a donated quilt, a tulip pattern made with vintage fabrics from the 1950s and 60s, finally finished recently.
- Historic Attractions Museum opens for the season Tuesday morning at 10 a.m. With the slogan "So Much More Than Cars," they finally dropped the "Auto" from their name. They have one of the most extensive collections of John F. Kennedy artifacts & memorabilia in the country. Owner Wayne Lensing, who after all made his name building race cars, has also updated the museum's High Performance Machines gallery (Miss Belvidere is not in that category). Don't miss the World War II artifacts, with uniforms, maps, swords, knives, flags, banners and more from both Allied and Axis powers.
- The annual Northern Illinois Small District Conference on April 25, 2025 is being hosted by Hononegah CHS #207, partnering with Kinnikinnick, Rockton, Roscoe, Prairie Hill, Shirland, and Winnebago School Districts and the Winnebago County Special Education Cooperative. For $30, teachers or administrators from area small districts can experience a nationally recognized keynote speaker, enjoy a Pinnon's box lunch, and have a variety of breakout sessions to choose from, including social emotional learning, differentiated instruction, content roundtables, instructional technology tools, wellness, leadership, with a special pathway for world language teachers. Registration is open for NISDC 2025 until April 11.
