Illinois 2 in South Beloit to close July 30

The Illinois Department of Transportation announced today that Illinois 2 (Blackhawk Boulevard) in South Beloit will be closed at the Union Pacific railroad crossing beginning Tuesday July 30, 2024. The closure will allow the railroad to remove and replace its at-grade crossing just south of Turtle Creek

A detour will be marked directing traffic to Illinois 75 (Gardner Street), US 51, and Broad Street in Beloit, Wisconsin. Work is anticipated to be completed Sunday August 4.

Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. To avoid the work area, when feasible, use of alternate routes should be considered. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and be alert for workers and equipment.
