The destruction and devastation created by recent hurricanes Helene and Milton in North Carolina and Florida have left thousands of people homeless. Many lives were lost and many more were left without clothing, food, water and other essentials.
The hurricane victims are now in the process of picking up the pieces. Volunteers from across the country have answered the call for help by donating money, services and household goods.
Several organizations and churches in the Stateline area have come forward with aid and assistance for the victims.
On Sunday, October 20, 2024, Louie’s Taphouse hosted “Fill the Semi” in the parking lot at 5689 Elevator Road in Roscoe.

Dozens of volunteers helped fill the trucks with much-needed food and essentials in Florida.Two semi-trailers were nearby as volunteers packed crates with stacks of canned and packaged foods, toilet paper, blankets, diapers, canned and packaged goods, hygiene products, animal food and other needed items. They loaded it all into the waiting trucks.
Semi-trailer and truck drivers from around the country are volunteering their time to transport emergency supplies to North Carolina and Florida.
Another volunteer-assisted collection of goods will take place on Sunday, October 27, 2024, at the Machesney Park Industrial Mall in Machesney Park.
With three full truckloads of goods, drivers will head to Florida on Monday, October 28, 2024
Curt Corson, (L) owner of Corson Transportation in Beloit, Wisconsin donated semi-trailers and his expertise to take much-needed goods to victims of Hurricane Milton in Parrish County in Florida. Drivers are donating their time to make the trip. Volunteer Bob Nowicki assisted in loading the trailers.Curt Corson and his wife Kristen, owners of Corson Transport LLC in Beloit, have been involved with disaster relief programs for several years. When they heard about hurricanes in North Carolina and Florida, they jumped into action and began efforts to get their trucks, loaded with supplies, to people in need in Parrish County near Tampa, Florida.
United Cajun Navy, a non-profit natural disaster support and supply organization out of Orlando, Florida are involved with rescues, community building, and fundraising events during natural disasters. They are currently working with “Fill the Semi” organizers and similar groups around the country.
Jonathon (Twinky) Sullivan has coordinated several fundraising ventures in the Rockton-Roscoe area, including Old Settlers Days in Rockton. He is serving as a liaison bringing donors, volunteer workers and events together to assist with the hurricane recovery.
