Marcy Hanson (1952-2024)

Marcia (Marcy) Hanson was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin and lived as a proud Badger alum, spending many Saturdays cheering for their football team. During her time at UW, she became an Alpha Phi and continued to socialize with members of Alpha Phi throughout the years.

Marcy passed away on February 2, 2024 with her husband, son and daughter by her side. She was finally free of the cancer she bravely fought four times. Marcy was a beacon of resilience and dedication and was known for her healthy dose of stubbornness. She leaves behind a legacy that will be cherished by her loved ones and remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Marcy was born on May 7, 1952, in Chicago, IL, the daughter of Henry and Jeanne Grabys. She married Ronald Hanson on September 12, 1981. They built a life full of love and joy in Roscoe, IL. She was a loving mother to Matt and Hillary. Marcy’s happiest moments were spent with her beloved family. Her favorite days were those spent baking and playing board games with her grandkids. She put her early childhood education degree to use and loved teaching them any way she could.

She had many wonderful years working at McDonalds, beginning as a crew member and working her way through management, but found her role as a customer relations representative the most rewarding. During her time there, she met some of the best and closest friends anyone could ask for.

Marcy is survived by her husband, Ronald, brother, Bill (Trish) Gabrys, her son Matt (Rachel) Hanson and Hillary (Jon) King, her grandchildren - Daxton, Norelle, Jacklyn, and Brayden. She is predeceased by her parents Henry and Jeanne Grabys.

Funeral arrangements were provided by McCorkle Funeral Home, Rockton, IL. Marcy had requested we honor her through a Celebration of Life, which will take place this coming June. In lieu of flowers, her family we would appreciate live plants they can care for and remember her, by as they continue to grow. Marcy also loved to support others if you would like to donate to your favorite charity in her honor.
