•The Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office announced the passing of K9 Zoro on August 24, 2026, after sudden medical complications led to a terminal lymphoma diagnosis at UW–Madison Veterinary Hospital. He was humanely euthanized with his handler, Senior Deputy DeVore, and fellow deputies by his side.
Zoro served from September 2021 to his End of Watch, remembered as a loyal partner and protector. Sheriff Gary Caruana called the loss “heartbreaking,” noting the deep bond between Zoro and his handler.
Community support has been overwhelming, with the department’s Facebook post drawing 3,700+ likes, 302 comments, and 275+ shares, filled with gratitude and tributes.
