  • Former Roscoe resident Matthew Barnett has been sentenced to four years in prison for robbing a Belvidere bank on November 23, 2024. Police arrested him three days later after searching his Chicory Ridge home. Thanks to the SAFE-T Act and his good conduct, he has only been in jail for two days, dutifully appearing at each required hearing. At his sentencing, the judge reminded him that he would face escape charges if he didn't report to prison on schedule. Almost $800 in fees were waived - he was apparently short on money. After Barnett gets out, he will serve another year of mandatory supervised release.
