Winning meats, non-traditional scholar, bugs, candidates, math, $500 and musical
The creations of Main Street Meats have won some new awards: 2022 Innovative Pork Contest Grand Champion (for their Busy Life Bistro Pulled Pork Dinner) and Reserve Grand Champion (for their Busy Life Bistro Pork Loin Dinner), Champion Fresh Sausage (for their Breakfast Links), Reserve Grand Champion Barbecue Products (Naturally Wood-Smoked Sliced Beef Brisket with BBQ Sauce), Reserve Grand Champion Jerky (Original Beef Jerky), Champion Fully Cooked BBQ Rib Class (Hickory Smoked Pork Loin Back Ribs), and Grand Champion Wieners (for their Hot Dogs with Cheddar Cheese in Natural Casing). And you can own and eat these prize-winners yourself: get them at 9515 N. 2nd St in Roscoe.
First it was Roscoe spelling champion Avani Joshi. This time it's her mother, Indu Pant, who has been named to the Blackburn College Dean's List for the fall 2021 semester. Mrs. Pant is currently a local substitute teacher. According to Avani's father Ashutosh Joshi, she is working toward a science teacher license, sponsored by the Golden Apple Accelerators Program. Mr. Joshi also knows a few things about science - he develops air cooled and liquid cooled thermal designs for Collins Aerospace. Founded in 1837, Blackburn College in Carlinville, IL has been ranked the top college in Illinois for Earnings-Price Return and Net Price, making it possibly the most affordable private undergraduate school in the state.

Monday is the first day for political candidates to file nomination paper if they want to be on their party's June 28 primary ballot - filing happens between Mar. 7-14. Candidates and their supporters have been collecting hundreds of signatures since Jan. 13. Vote by mail applications are due by Mar. 30, the same day that election officials must complete purging ineligible voters from their rolls. In coming weeks, we will be reporting more about those who want to represent us. State and county officials are up for election this year.

The Hononegah math team took 1st place in the Regional ICTM math competition. A few appropriate statistics which involve a 3:4 ration: Hononegah won 1st place in 3/4 of the content areas: Algebra 1, Geometry, and PreCalculus. Hononegah teams placed first in 3/4 of their events: Fr-So 8 Person, Calculator, and the Oral Competition. In sum, 24 Math Team members will be competing in the state finals on April 30.
