News Briefs 8/21/2023: it's hot and getting hotter
In the news: heat warning at Talcott Library, Roscoe Fall Festival, Purple and Gold, and Elvis
The National Weather Service warns that a heat advisory will be in effect Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2023 from 11 a.m. - 9 p.m., with a high near 91 and a heat index as high as 102. But the excessive heat warning continues: Wednesday and Thursday will also be sunny and hot, in the high 90s, but heat indexes may reach 115 degrees. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Vehicles can become solar ovens.
Speaking of heat, the Talcott Free Library board meets again Monday night. A resident reportedly plans to present cost figures for the recent pro-drag and anti-drag protests. We told our source that we can't publish any figures without documentation, which we have requested from them. We have reached out to both sides for comments.
