Joel Lorr spent many hours fishing, birding and gardening
The former Rockton resident will be laid to rest in Willamette National Cemetery in Oregon.
Joel Francis Lorr, 85, a past resident of Rockton, Illinois, was recruited by International Harvester following college, where he held several positions during his career with the company. Later in life, he served in the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office in Douglas County, Colorado.
He passed away peacefully at his home in Beaverton, Oregon, on Friday morning, March 27, 2026, surrounded by family.
Born April 19, 1940, in Chicago, Illinois, he was the eldest of eight children born to Joseph E. Lorr & Evelyn (Pechous) Lorr.
Joel graduated from Lyons Township High School, Lagrange, IL in 1958 and earned a bachelor of science degree from Northern Illinois University in 1962. He served in the United States Army, receiving an honorable discharge on May 31, 1963.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 53 years, Lynne E. (Kempfer) Lorr. He is survived by his three children—Frank, John, and Holly—three grandchildren—Brette, Michelle, and Jack—and two great‑grandchildren, Juniper and Noelle.
Joel found enjoyment in the outdoors. He was an avid fisherman and member of the Oregon Bass and Panfish Club. He also spent many hours birding and gardening, taking particular pleasure in a pair of Northern Flickers that regularly visited his feeder.
The family extends sincere thanks to Holy Trinity Church, the Veterans Administration, and the many dedicated individuals who supported Joel & his family through his final journey Home.
Joel will be remembered with love and affection by all who knew him. He will be laid to rest at Willamette Valley National Cemetery in Oregon in recognition of his military service. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages a to donation to the charity of your choice.
