Dorothy Whitley (1944-2022) was married for 59 years

Dorothy Whitley, 78, of Roscoe, passed away on Saturday, April 30, 2022, at Beloit Memorial Hospital. Dorothy was born on March 27, 1944, in Rockford to Hilding and Elaine Benson. She graduated from Phoenix Union High School, Phoenix, Arizona in 1962. She married James E. Whitley on January 10, 1963, and together they enjoyed 59 years of marriage. Dorothy worked for Blue Cross Blue Shield as a claims investigator for 21 years, retiring in 2001. Dorothy enjoyed spending time with her family.

She is survived by her husband, James; children, James K. (Janet) Whitley, Jodi A. (Bob) Phillips and Jennifer R. (Tom) Lewandowski; grandchildren, Ashley (Brett) Fanning, Bobby (Lindsay) Phillips, Brianna Henthorn, Brittany (Tommy) Hemerley, Zach Phillips, Taylor Lewandowski, Triston (Julia) Lewandowski and Joshua Stook; great-grandchildren, Aubrey and Noah Hemerley; sisters, Kathy Precoda, Janet Groth-Schembara and Robbin (Dana) Daughenbaugh; brother Donald Benson. She was predeceased by her parents.

Memorial visitation will be 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm on Wednesday, May 4, 2022, in Honquest Family Funeral Home with Crematory-Roscoe Chapel, 11342 Main St., Roscoe, IL 61073. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.
