Nathan Schmidt, with help of his mom Tammy and his friend Mason Sharp, collected 170 pairs of shoes, bypassing his goal of 100 for his project “Second Chance Sports Shoes.” On Saturday, July 29, 2023, Schmidt hosted a free shoe giveaway at the YMCA Ironworks branch in Beloit.  Once he starts 7th grade this year at Stephen Mack Middle School, he has aspirations of becoming part of the National Jr. Honor Society (NJHS). 24 year-old Matthew Jackson, has been identified as the victim of a fatal collision Saturday afternoon, Aug. 5, 2023 at McDonald Rd. and Sage Hen Trail in Roscoe, Illinois. Jackson was driving east on McDonald Road "at a high rate of speed" after the crash emergency personnel removed Jackson from his vehicle and put him in an ambulance, but "he was deemed to be beyond resuscitation." Hundreds of motorcycle riders will converge at the VFW Post 2955 parking lot in Roscoe, IL at 8:00 a.m on Saturday, August 26, 2023 for the Jaimie Cox Motorcycle Rally. This is the fifth year for the annual memorial event that honors fallen Rockford Police officer James (Jaimie) Cox who was killed in the line of duty on Nov. 5, 2017. The kickstand start begins at 10:15 am. Riders will be traveling country roads through Winnebago and Ogle Counties. [more]

Hundreds of motorcycle riders will be descending on the parking lot at the Roscoe VFW, Post 2955, on Saturday, August 26, 2023, for the James M. Cox Foundation Memorial group ride through Winnebago and Ogle Counties.

The City of South Beloit's Park and Recreation Advisory Board are talking about the potential for murals, disc golf, and Tree City USA, as well as city park repairs/upgrades, flower pots and benches, and park security.


50 North and Winnebago County Sheriff Department are hosting a free picnic for seniors on Tuesday, August 15, at Settlers' Park in Rockton, IL. The time is 1 p.m. Plan to join us for brats and hot dogs and fun! [more


Support Nature At The Confluence by purchasing a rubber duck (or a handful of ducks) which will race down Turtle Creek before their Community Fire & Drum Circle on August 17 at 6:15 m. Prizes will be awarded to the winners- the race is a fundraiser to continue to fund the programs. [more]
