Hononegah's girls bowling team: it's fun to be sectional champs.

With the NFL season now in the books, sports fans in the Roscoe and Rockton communities should now turn back toward the high school sports scene and Hononegah.

The 2022-2023 NIC 10 girls  basketball champions (that would be Hononegah) began the journey for the gold ball last night as they played Rockford Auburn. After a slow shooting start, Hononegah rolled to a 20-point win 54-34. They now play Harlem after they defeated Hampshire. Tipoff is Thursday, February 16, at 7 p.m. from Rockford East. See the whole Hampshire Sectional bracket here.

The Hononegah boys basketball team ended the regular season on a high note when they knocked off Rockford Auburn 60-54 last Saturday. With the victory, they knocked Auburn out of the conference title. As any competitor understands, if you can’t win the title yourself, knocking another team out is a great feeling. They now focus on the opening round of the IHSA Boys 4A Basketball playoffs. They take on Harlem on Saturday, February 18 in the opening round. Winner takes on #1 seed Huntley Wednesday, February 22 from the Hononegah Fieldhouse at 6 p.m. tip. See the whole Rockford (Jefferson) Sectional bracket here.

Last weekend, the Hononegah girls bowling team won the Dundee-Crown Sectional with a total of 6,142. They now head to the state tournament at the Cherry Bowl in Rockford on Friday, February 17, and Saturday, February 18. Fans are encouraged and welcomed to attend. Watch for the scores here.
