It’s All About Fiber! May 18-19, 2024 at Macktown Living History
It’s all about fiber! The word fiber in this situation refers to plants & animals, the parts of which are used in the making of clothing, baskets, belts, rope and more.
Spinning, dyeing, rug hooking are words used widely at one time in this country and around the world. These words are verbs; words indicating action. An opportunity awaits you to participate in the action of learning to spinning on a drop spindle and on a spinning wheel, natural dyeing, and rug hooking,
Classes in the above skills are available to you as well as classes in beginning cordage and Tunisian crochet at "It’s All About Fiber! Fiber Arts Event." The event will be held Saturday & Sunday, May 18 & 19, 9-4, presented by Macktown Living History, located in the Macktown Forest Preserve Historic District, 2221 Freeport Rd, Rockton, Illinois 61072.
There will also be people demonstrating spinning, bobbin lace, knitting, darning, felting and more.
We have an area designated for kids. This area is open from noon -3:30 p.m. Young people will have an opportunity to try various fiber related skills. All will be able to create a yarn doll to take home.
Vendors will be available for you to purchase handwoven items, hand dyed yarn, knitting needles, yarn bowls, ceramic buttons, loom pickers, triangle looms, lazy kates, spinning wheel repair and restoration to name some of the items.
Nenas food truck will have food and beverage available for purchase.

Admission to this event is $5, free to members. Children under 8 are free.
