Mary Hedges (1940-2021) loved traveling, cats

Mary Claudette Hedges, 80, of Rockton, IL passed away October 19, 2021. Born November 9, 1940 in Calumet City, IL, the daughter of Herbert and Lorraine (Kee) Ross, she worked for 25 years in the insurance business at Tripp-Wells Agency, Robert V. Wells Agency, Brereton, Inc. and Jody Goad State Farm, all in Belvidere, IL. 

After she retired, she married Roger A. Hedges on September 3, 1997, who had worked for the Rockford Morning Star. The couple lived in Citrus Heights, CA, where Roger was Managing West Coast Regional Editor for USA Today, which he helped to create for Gannett News Service, the owner of the Rockford paper. She returned to Illinois after his death in 2015.

Mary enjoyed to travel throughout her life. She also loved cats.

Survivors include children, Robin Rakoczy, Mike (Christine) Rakoczy, Linda (John) Elliot, Jill Brown; grandchildren, Michaela Passenheim, Christopher Rakoczy, Claire Brown, Grace Brown, Matt Brown, Carrie Elliot; and great grandchildren, Mark Jr. and Vivian Passenheim, and Lucy Pierce. She was predeceased by husband, Roger and sister, Pat Hedges.

Private family services are to be held. Honquest Family Funeral Homes assisted with arrangements.
