What to do in Rockton & Roscoe - Friday, Sep 23 - Friday, Sep 30

This week we've found a dozen things to do in Rockton & Roscoe: there's Homecoming, or live music, acoustic music, loud music, or a book sale.  Sure, it's getting cooler, but you can still enjoy a drive-in movie, hit the trail for a nature hike or a half marathon, or have fun while raising money to prevent overdoses, help cancer survivors, or preserve local history.

Fall Book Sale - Fri Sep 23 9:00 am

Talcott Free Library

Three days only. Sept. 23, 9 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. • Sept. 24, 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. • Sept. 26, 9 a.m. - 8 p.m. Stock up on gently used books, audio books, CDs, and DVDs. All proceeds help support Talcott Free Library. [more details]


Hononegah High School 100th Birthday and Homecoming - Fri Sep 23 6:00 pm

Hononegah Community High School

Come celebrate 100 years! Hononegah Community High School opened its doors in 1923. Events and activities will include:

  • Friday, Sept. 23: Parade through downtown Rockton: 4:15 p.m., Race Street to Salem Street
  • Homecoming football game, Hononegah vs East: 7:45 p.m., Kelsey Football Field
  • Feast on the Field Tailgate Party: 6:30 p.m., on the field under the big white tent
  • Saturday, Sept. 24: Homecoming dance: 7 - 10 p.m., Hononegah Fieldhouse - Students $20, guests $30

Admission: $25 per carload. Intro to Community Science Hike - Fall BudBurst! - Sat Sep 24 12:00 am

Hononegah Forest Preserve

2 - 4 p.m. Join fellow community scientists for a slow-paced walk where we will focus on wildlife and plant identification. Bring your camera and/or smartphone, connect with other community scientists, sharpen your ID skills, and learn more about how to get involved in Community Science. For this hike, we will be focusing more on our plants and the fall changes. [more details]


Stone Bridge Half Marathon and 5k - Sat Sep 24 7:30 am

Leland Park

A very fast, out and back half marathon course set up on the scenic Stone Bridge Trail in Roscoe, Illinois. Proceeds will benefit the LIVESTRONG at the YMCA program-a 12 week small group program to help cancer survivors reclaim their health. [more details]


Antique Sale - Sat Sep 24 9:00 am

Cross Homestead

Attention antique lovers! Hunt for bargains and show your support for one of Roscoe's most treasured places, the Cross Homestead. Sale open 9/24 and 9/25 from 9 a.m.- 3 p.m., rain or shine. Park in the new community center parking lot and follow signs. All proceeds go towards the Cross Homestead restoration.  Sponsored by the Roscoe Township Historical Society. [more details]


Hike at Nygren Wetland - Sat Sep 24 9:30 am

Nygren Wetland Preserve

Join us at Nygren Wetland for a 2.5-mile hike on their main trail that loops around the wetland. The trail is well maintained and has mild terrain. Nygren Wetland is an excellent location for birdwatching. We will take breaks to enjoy the wildlife we see. We will meet at the overlook. All ages are welcome! [more details]

Raising funds to prevent death by substance use and related Live R.E.A.L. Foundation programs. Auctions, raffles and concert by Sunset Strip.
