The Village of Roscoe decided at their Aug. 15, 2023 meeting they will commit up to $600K in matching funds for a grant to expand Porter Park and the Porter Park Disc Golf Course. A state  Open Space Acquisition and Development grant (OSLAD) grant application for the park, which was not approved last year, became more likely when Winnebago County received funds to connect the 15-mile-long Perryville Bike Path to the park in 2025. The grant will not include a proposed dog park or agility course, but will include restrooms, a pedestrian bridge, and possibly a pavilion. The deadline to apply for the grant was unexpectedly moved up to the end of August.

The Roscoe board also agreed to buy up some Main Street lots at Hodges Run that could become part of the streetscape plan. A potential buyer wanted to put duplexes on the property, but on June 6, 2023, the Village voted against the zoning change that would have allowed that.

Afterwards, at the Committee of the Whole meeting, the Roscoe board voted to pay more money to Fehr Graham Engineering to plan two intersections in upgrades to Love Road and Willowbrook Roads.

Our coverage of the Village of Rockton meeting will include the latest police news, such as the swearing in of a new officer. The board is expected to grant permits for several upcoming events, such as Blues & BBQ, Jack Lovejoy Memorial Golf Outing, and Last Roar Car Show. In executive session, the board will discuss selling Village property.

The City of South Beloit will meet next on Aug. 21, 2023.
