Village Boards to make decisions at Tuesday's meetings
Lower garage sale fees? Buy rooftop lighting? Get a new trash service?
At their Sept. 20 meeting, the Village of Roscoe Board of Trustees will vote on special event fees for neighborhood garage sales. At their August 16 Committee of the Whole meeting, trustee Justin Plock proposed that the special event assembly fee for community garage sales be increased from $50 to $100, while removing the additional fee for police expenses. Trustee Carol Gustafson objected, saying that the Village spends $500 for extra police coverage for the Chicory Ridge community garage sales. Trustees will decide whether or not to approve Plock's motion - a majority favored it in August.
The Village is expected to hire Alliance Contractors to construct new sidewalks and ADA modifications for the intersection of Karakul Terrace and Montadale Drive in Shepherd Hills. Alliance has bid $117,134 to do the work.

Trustees will talk again about purchasing and installing permanent LED lighting around the roofline perimeter of Village Hall and the Roscoe Police Department. Village Administrator Scott Sanders brought up the topic at the previous Committee of the Whole Meeting, saying $10,000 has been set aside each year since 2020 for Christmas lighting. Lang Lighting and Decor quoted the Village $21,287 for the permanent lighting. Trustees were evenly split about whether the lighting was necessary.
The Village Board will discuss getting competitive bids for collection of residential trash, recycling, bulk waste, and yard waste, since Waste Management is expected to raise their rates.
Trustees will take another look at Plat 7 of Prairie Business Center, the area west of 251 and north of Hononegah Road, which was discussed at their Sept. 6 meeting.
And they plan to suspend their “Pandemic Emergency Staffing Plan.”
At their Sept. 20 meeting, the board of trustees of the Village of Rockton will probably approve a special events application for Hanz Brew Fest to be held on Saturday, October 1 from 12-6 p.m. in Settlers Park.
Villages routinely grant special event applications and liquor licenses for outdoor events. But this week, the Village of Rockton will consider granting a special event retailer's tobacco license for Strike the Box Pipes & Cigars for Saturday, October 1, from 12-6 p.m. in Settlers Park. Of course, first they would have to amend Chapter 118 of the Village of Rockton Code of Ordinances to create the possibility of a Special Event Retailers Tobacco License.
Rockton trustees are also expected to pay Pearsons $3,920 for toilet/masonry repair at the Rockton Pool. And they will pay $4,803.53 to renew their annual license for Microsoft Office.
