SOBO's beat the Green Giants 37-6 in I8FA playoff action on Saturday.
SOUTH BELOIT, Ill. — Sophomore running back Zane Hagstrom bullied and darted his way through Alden‑Hebron’s defense Saturday, sparking South Beloit to a decisive Level 1 IHSA playoff victory at home.
Hagstrom did the bulk of the damage, turning hard inside runs and sharp outside bursts into consistent gains while also flashing the ability to pick up yards after contact and on the perimeter. His knack for finding seams and finishing runs forced Alden‑Hebron to chase the game and opened up opportunities for the SOBOs passing game and short-yardage situations.
South Beloit’s offense rode Hagstrom’s work to control tempo and the line of scrimmage, while the defense bent when necessary and tightened at key moments to preserve the lead. Alden‑Hebron struggled to contain the sophomore, whose vision and burst repeatedly flipped field position and kept drives alive.
The win advances South Beloit in the Level 1 bracket and gives the SOBOs momentum as they prepare for the next round. Hagstrom’s breakout performance on a big stage marks him as a player to watch in the postseason.
Next game is an I8FA Level 2 playoff game vs. Milledgeville on Friday, November 7.
