The predicted heavy snow storm didn't arrive overnight, but snow is likely (100% chance) to continue until 9 p.m. Thursday night, Feb. 16, 2023, with total daytime snow accumulations of possibly 4-8 inches.

Hononegah principal Chad Dougherty says the high school will have a remote learning day on Thursday. Students have received links by email for each class and "attendance will be taken" on Google Classroom.

Other schools have also declared a Remote Learning Day. Kinnikinnick assignment options are online but aren't due until Monday. Students can choose among several options for each subject. One suggested assignment: "Make sure you take the time to enjoy the outdoors with your children if you are able to do so." Because students are learning remotely, they won't have to make up a snow day later.

The National Weather Service predicted "Heavy snow and mixed precipitation expected. Total snow accumulations of 4 to 7 inches and ice accumulations of a light glaze. Winds gusting as high as 40 mph, leading to blowing snow in exposed locations."

Shortly before 6 a.m. this morning, the Village of Roscoe reaffirmed a "snow emergency to coincide with the national weather service winter storm warning. Snow emergency will go into affect at 3:00 AM Thursday, February 17, continuing through 9:00 PM.  Residents must remove cars from Village streets throughout the duration of the snow event."

The National Weather Service says to expect "patchy blowing snow after 10am," sometimes heavy. Wind gusts could reach 30 mph. By sunset, the temperature is expected to drop to 27 degrees.

As in other places, parking is not allowed on Rockton streets when more than two inches of snow is predicted or has fallen.

The City of South Beloit has declared a snow emergency beginning Thursday, February 16, 2023 at 11:00 am until Friday, February 17, 2023 at 8:00 a.m. As in Roscoe, park your vehicles off the street.
