Nathan Schmidt is a middle school student from Rockton and a member of the National Junior Honor Society (NJHS). His community project is collecting gently used sports shoes to give them a second chance by cleaning them up and delivering them to people in the community for free.

He will be at the Rockton River Market this Wednesday, July 19, so visit him at his booth to learn more about the project and to drop off any unwanted sports shoes and shoelaces in case any shoes need to be restrung.

He is also partnering up with the Stateline Family YMCA. He has collection boxes in various locations, and periodically, he will pick up the shoes and shine them up. He will have them ready to hand out for free to those that need them on July 29, 2023 at 10 a.m. at the Stateline YMCA-Ironworks branch.

Second Chance Sports Shoes gives gently used sports shoes a second chance to play and also helps our community by:

  • Providing kids with the shoes they need to stay active
  • Helping parents save money
  • Giving people in the community an opportunity to be involved
  • Reusing is a form of recycling that reduces landfill space
