Hononegah Girls Golf Ends 21‑Year Drought, Captures NIC‑10 Title

For the first time since 2005, the Hononegah Community High School girls golf team can call itself NIC‑10 Conference Champions. The Lady Indians fired a team total of 368, edging Rockford Guilford by five strokes to reclaim the crown and cap a season defined by consistency and composure.

Senior standout Alicia Wallin led the charge with a masterful 73, earning medalist honors and the title of NIC‑10 individual champion. Her round was a clinic in course management — fairways found, greens in regulation, and a putter that stayed hot from start to finish.

Behind Wallin, sophomore Sierra Davidson carded an 89, good enough for a top‑five finish, while senior Izzy D’ Haeze posted a 100 to join her teammates inside the top ten. Sophomore Elliot Campbell (106), senior Taylor Schreier (109), and sophomore Savanna Plock (111) rounded out the scoring, each contributing key strokes that kept Hononegah ahead of the field.

The victory was more than numbers on a scorecard — it was a statement. After years of near misses, Hononegah’s lineup showed the kind of depth and poise that wins championships. Every player found a way to grind out pars when it mattered, and the team’s chemistry carried them through the final nine holes.

Next up, the Lady Indians head to Crystal Lake (Woods) on Tuesday, Sept. 29, for the IHSA regional tournament, where they’ll look to keep the momentum rolling and extend their season into the postseason fairways.
