ROSCOE - Roscoe VFW Post 2955 honored the fallen military service members and civilians who perished at Pearl Harbor Naval Station in 1941.

Each year, the Roscoe VFW Post 2955 commemorates National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day with a ceremony at Riverside Park in Roscoe. Post Commander Gene Mund paid tribute to the courage and sacrifice of those who died in the attack. Veteran Ruben Hernandez placed a wreath in the river, honoring those who perished. The VFW Rifle Squad fired a volley, followed by the playing of Taps.

National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day has been designated as a day to honor the courage and service of those who lost their lives on December 7, 1941, at the Pearl Harbor Naval Station in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. An early morning Japanese surprise attack killed 2,403 service members and civilians and destroyed 19 United States naval vessels. President Franklin Delano Roosevelt called the tragedy "a date that will live in infamy." The attack led to the beginning of World War II.
