Nearly every summer for the past 14 years, Roscoe United Methodist Church has been celebrating the summer season with free ice cream treats for everyone on Thursday evenings.

When the tradition started, church members passed out ice cream cones to families as they walked or drove by the church at 10816 Main Street in Roscoe.

Under the leadership of Family Ministry Director Kathy Cizerle, the goodwill gesture has spread through the community. The agenda might change from year to year, but there are always games and usually a bounce house and music to keep kids occupied while their parents visit with old and new friends.

The August 1, 2024, ice cream social was the final “That Thursday Thing” for this year. Hopefully the ice cream tradition will remain among Roscoe summer events.

In June 2024, the Roscoe community said farewell to Pastor Paul Meyers who retired after 14 years at RUMC. Pastor Meyer kicked off the first “That Thursday Thing.” Pastor Ryan Sutton was welcomed to the community in July 2024.  Hopefully the summer ice cream social event will continue under his leadership.

While the kids played, the adults socialized during the July 31, 2024 ice cream social in the north parking lot oat Roscoe United Methodist Church.
