Before the Jan. 11 Village of Roscoe Board meeting officially began, Chief Jamie Evans swore in three new police officers: Nelson Lopez, Phil Harris and Travis Coburn.

All three officers made lateral moves (new job at same career level) from other police departments in Illinois. Lopez was employed by the Chicago Police Department for 21 years, Coburn for seven years.

Harris retired from the Rockford Police Department after 20 years of service.  He then worked for the Winnebago County Park District.

All three officers previously graduated from the Illinois Police Academy.  They will immediately begin local job field training.

A reception was held for the new officers and their families.

The regular Village Board meeting followed.

Trustees approved several resolutions, including one authorizing a $37,100 agreement with Fehr-Graham Engineering, for professional construction and engineering management services for the 2022 Residential Streets Program.

Trustees authorized the Village to enter an agreement with Fehr-Graham for engineering and construction management for repairs and reconstruction of the North Frontage Road (north of McCurry Rd). The estimated cost of $55,040 will be funded by MFT (motor fuel tax) revenue. They also approved an Illinois Department of Transportation resolution for maintenance under the Illinois Highway Code.

Trustees approved a resolution entering into a two-year, $11,000 agreement with "Text My Gov," a direct communications platform. The text platform will allow residents to send text messages to Village staff to ask questions and receive information.

A 12-month purchase agreement was approved for equipment and software maintenance with Pitney Bowes for meter rental, maintenance, software and support for a SendPro C Series postage/mailing management system, costing $1,940.64.

The Board of Trustees approved bid specifications for an addition to the Public Works facility at 5402 Swanson Rd.
