Roscoe parade? Here are all the details - except it was canceled by Sunday weather
Heavy rain or lightning on Sunday stopped the parade.
Bad weather has rained on the the Roscoe Lions Festival Parade. The Lions Club has cancelled all remaining events on Sunday. A Friday innews release from the Village of Roscoe said that, "while we hold on to cautious optimism, the forecast for Sunday morning is in fact calling for rain. In the event of light rain, we intend for the parade to start at 11:00 a.m. as scheduled. However, if we experience heavy rain, or if there is visible or radar-indicated lighting we will regrettably be forced to cancel the parade. Given the logistics involved in coordinating such an event, there will unfortunately not be an alternate ‘rain date’."
On Friday, the National Weather Service calculates a 44% chance of rain when The 80’s Hit List finishes playing at 10 p.m. Saturday night, but an 84% chance of rain from 7 a.m. to noon Sunday morning, during the parade.
About 40 groups, some of them with several subgroups, have signed up to ride or march in Sunday's parade. On the list: veterans marching, marching bands, a hearse and a dune buggy, a black Jaguar, fifteen Model A cars circa 1930, a 1958 King Midget Microcar, a Stateline Mass Transit District bus, a fire truck, an ambulance, 12 pre-school kids marching, country/bluegrass musician Lola Blu with a pickup truck and flatbed trailer, and 50 Jeeps.
The large number makes it hard to communicate with all of them. The Village has posted announcements on "all available social media platforms and will issue a group email to all parade participants." They sent a message through Text My Gov. If necessary, Roscoe Police will drive the parade route with a loudspeaker to make announcements.

The parade was scheduled to start at Main and Bridge Streets at 11 a.m. and woulf head north to Williams Drive/Main Street Square. But starting at 10:15 a.m., Main Street was to be closed to all vehicle traffic between Bridge St. and Hodges Run. To reach the rest of Main Street, Hononegah Road and Bridge Street/Belvidere Road would have been open, but vehicles on 251 would not be allowed to turn onto Williams Drive (east). And between the hours of 10:15 a.m. and approximately 1 p.m., drivers traveling west on Williams Drive would only be allowed to turn north (right) onto 251.
