Roscoe approves paving, a police drone, a mural, a bridge, and festivals
The Board of Trustees may vote to reduce fees for the Chicory Ridge garage sales.
The Village of Roscoe's July 19, 2022 general meeting began with the approval of a (temporary) liquor license to Poison Ivy Pub to operate at Leland Park during the 112th Annual Roscoe Lion’s Club Fall Festival, September 9-11, 2022.
The Fall Festival was first held in 1910. It was announced that once again the Lions Club will not be scheduling a fireworks display this year.
Porter Park Cabin will get new paving of the parking lot and entry drive. Trustees agreed to enter into an agreement with Royer Asphalt to do the work for the quoted price of $165,452.19. The work is to be completed this year.
Repairs to residential streets in the Village are moving ahead. Entrance streets in Chicory Ridge and sidewalks in Shepherds Hill are nearly completed.
Village Engineer Brandon Boggs reported on a study underway to improve the pedestrian bridge in downtown Main Street across from Harrison Street. Structural issues need to be addressed. The bridge will be for pedestrian traffic only, no vehicles allowed.

Village Administrator Scott Sanders said Main Street will be closed in front of the Police Department for National Night Out, Aug. 2, from 6 - 8 p.m. The free event sponsored by the Roscoe Police Department features games, music, dunk tank, food and demonstrations.
The Board unanimously approved the purchase of an AXON Air DJI Mavic Enterprise Advanced Drone, with training, licensing and associated equipment, for use by the Roscoe Police Department, for the quoted price of $19,489, with $3,897.80 applied to fiscal year 2022.
Sanders gave an update on the mural being installed on Main Street near Bridge Street. The gray building is owned by Freemasons, who donated the space for the project. Artist Thomas Agran has been commissioned to begin work in early August 2022.
Trustees approved entering into an agreement with the Rockford Area Convention and Visitors Bureau (RACVB) for installation of the mural as part of the 2022 CRE815 Transformational Art Program for an amount not to exceed $30,000. Three $5,000 donations have been pledged by local businesses and trusts.
Trustees unanimously approved the resolution.
The board also discussed either capping the cost of police reimbursement or waiving the reimbursement entirely for the annual Chicory Ridge community garage sales in the Village.
The Committee of the Whole meeting followed, in which a remote work policy was discussed, as well as improvements to the Roscoe Public Works department complex on Swanson Road and possible changes to the Saturday-only trick or treating schedule.
