- In honor of National Poetry Month, Talcott Free Library is hosting a teen poetry contest. Anytime in the month of April, you can submit up to two poems of any theme (50 lines or less). library staff will vote on the best poem and the winner will receive a $15 gift card to the local Inkwell Books & Threads shop. Poem submissions are open for grades 6-12. The poetry winner will be contacted/announced within the second week of May.
- Corey Scoma of Rockton, Illinois, was recently elected to membership into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation's oldest and most selective all-discipline collegiate honor society, as a graduate student at The University of Alabama, where he is studying educational leadership. Scoma teaches English at Freeport High School.
