  • The public is invited to assemble at 11:30 a.m. today at the boat landing at Riverside Park in Roscoe as the Roscoe Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2955 Color Guard gathers to commemorate the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor on this day in 1941. The tragic event launched the United States into World War II.  The ceremony will begin promptly at 11:45 a.m. with a short address and a prayer, followed by tossing a wreath into the Rock River, with rifle volleys and Taps at 11:58 a.m., the exact time the attack took place.
  • South Beloit may be ready to hire a fire chief. The Beloit Daily News says the Illinois Fire Chiefs Association found 10 candidates and the City Council will interview three on Monday. After a time of public comment at the South Beloit City Council’s special meeting on Monday at 4:15 p.m. the trustees will immediately leave the room to go into special (closed) session to discuss “personnel matters“ regarding an employee or volunteer. After that private meeting, they will return, have a roll call, and adjourn.
