Public worker, nine people in two hours, nightlife

Today's news from Roscoe, South Beloit, and Rockton - read by more than 2,000 people each day, courtesy of Rockton-Roscoe News.
- Former Roscoe Village Administrator Scott Sanders has been nominated to be the City of Rockford's Director of Public Works. He is expected to be confirmed by Rockford City Council on May 5.
- On Tuesday, I spent a couple of hours at the Rock River Valley Blood Center's Perryville Center, which I do each month. In two hours, I was able to donate two units of platelets and one unit of whole blood. Since each unit can help up to three patients, we helped about nine people in two hours - possibly a better lifesaving average per hour than you'd see, for instance, in ER Season 14. Would you like to do that too? Call 815-965-8751 to donate blood, plasma, or platelets. For me, not only does it save lives but it builds character.
- Hundreds of people have already read the first installment of a new Roscoe history series, brought to you each month by Tracy Terry. This one focuses on our local historians, people like Dr. W.L Ransom, Florence Shugars, and Dorothy Hunter.
