The Rock County Fury opened up their season with a 5-4 loss to the Fox Cities Stars on Saturday November 18, 2023.  But the loss overshadows a great opening game effort from the team.

Head coach Luke Steurer said “We came out a little slow to start the first period but got settled in more about half way through. They took a 3-0 lead after the first period. Our girls kept fighting to stay in it all game and never gave up even when we were down 1-5. We crawled our way back in the game and made it 4-5 in the 3rd. It was great to see the team keep pushing the whole game and able to come back with in a goal to give ourselves a chance. They never let down or stopped playing. This was a great test for us in our first game playing against a team that has a lot of depth and good players. We held our own and stayed right in it. We work on a couple things in practice and I think it is a different game.”

Next up, they have a Thanksgiving tournament against Brookfield and Arrowhead on Friday, November 24, 2023 at the Howard G. Mullett Ice Center in Hartland, WI.

Several Hononegah female students are playing for the Rock County Fury this season.

The players are:

  • Sophomore      Forward Jayden Lake
  • Freshman      Defenseman Piper Aaker
  • Senior      Forward Makayla Mackiewicz

Thanks goes out to head coach Luke Steurer for his time and information for the story, the hockey parents and Hononegah School District for the effort to get this opportunity for the kids and the entire Rock County Fury team and staff.
