Hononegah’s Dominic Kasel Captures NIC‑10 Crown With Steady, Clutch Play

Hononegah sophomore Dominic Kasel delivered one of the season’s defining performances this last Friday and Saturday, capturing the NIC‑10 boys individual golf title with rounds of 75‑72, edging Belvidere North sophomore Thatcher Mudowney by a single stroke.

Kasel’s two‑day total showcased poise beyond his years — a composed opening 75 followed by a confident 72 that sealed the championship. His victory adds to what has already become a banner fall for Hononegah golf. Last week, the Hononegah girls team claimed the NIC‑10 title, with senior Alicia Wallin earning medalist honors.

As a team, Hononegah finished third in the boys standings at 631 (+25), trailing Belvidere North at 609 (+18) and Boylan Catholic at 619 (+28).

Kasel now turns his attention to the postseason, where he’ll compete in Wednesday’s IHSA Regional at Atwood Homestead, teeing off at 8 a.m. The sophomore enters the event with momentum — and a conference championship medal — as he looks to extend Hononegah’s strong season into October.
