A pedestrian bridge and food truck event on the horizon in Roscoe
Main Street Square in Roscoe will have a food truck event “A Taste on Main” on June 25.

Roscoe Village trustees discussed amending the Code of Ordinances related to special events permits within the Village, at the May 3, 2022 meeting. Trustee Carol Gustafson had concerns about fees the Village charges for the events.

All trustees agreed that waivers should apply to charitable organizations.  The suggested fee for block party petitions is $25, and fees for public assembly will be $50.

Vandalism in the Village has gone up significantly.  There has been damage and graffiti in dug-out areas under Elevator Road along the Riverside bike path, and in Leland Park.

Trustees discussed installing cameras at strategic area around the Village. Village Administrator Scott Sanders said cost for the cameras would be approximately $60 to $90.

Sanders reported progress in finding the best location for the installation of a large mural in the downtown area of Roscoe. The mural is part of the beautification plans for the Village.

The Committee of the Whole meeting followed the general meeting.

Sanders announced plans for a food truck event, “A Taste on Main” to be held June 25, 2:00 - 8:00 PM at Main Street Square, 5300 Williams Dr. on June 25.

Most of the businesses in Main Street Square will be participating. Sanders said the event will take place on the west parking lot.  The family-friendly event will feature six, possibly seven food trucks, tents, and music.  Spider Girl and Spider Hero will provide children’s entertainment.  Sanders said no beer tents will be allowed.

More information will be forthcoming at the May 17 Village meeting.

Trustees discussed the acquisition of two 2022 Ford Police Interceptor Utility vehicles and a sedan, under the terms of the master lease agreement with Enterprise Fleet Management, Inc.  Two current sedans will be re tired and sold. The combined quoted price of $155,198.00.

The existing bridge crossing the South Kinnikinnick Creek may soon feature a pedestrian bridge.  A recommendation was made to the board to approve an amendment to the Main Street design contract addressing an addition that would modify the existing bridge, changing it to a pedestrian bridge.  The redesign would feature a 10 foot concrete path on the east side, parallel to the bridge. Estimated cost of the structure is $47,500.

Trustee Sue Petty asked for a two-week layover, and that a rendering of the plan be made available at that time.

Lastly, the Board discussed the recommendation for solicitation of bids or extension of the existing contract for the purchase of road salt.  Cargill has been supplying the treated road salt.  Now Morton is bidding.  Village Engineer Brandon Boggs said the price has gone up $4.50 per ton - the regular price. Trustees voted to go with Morton Salt bid.

The next Village meeting will be held May 17, beginning at 6:30 p.m.  The public is encouraged to attend.
