News at Roscoe Township
Construction has begun for the Roscoe Township Community Center.
With Township Supervisor Bob Nowicki out sick for a day, Trustee Pat Henderson, as the longest-serving trustee in the area, presided over the May 11, 2022 Roscoe Township Board meeting.
Trustee Phil Rhymer reported that at the future site of Founders Park at 4562 Hononegah Road, sufficient trees have been taken out so construction crews can put in a gravel driveway from Hononegah Road to build the Roscoe Township Community Center. Meanwhile, Roscoe Garage Door will install two doors on the Quonset hut next to the 1840s home of Roscoe founder Robert J. Cross, where Total Plumbing and Heating has installed a brand new 125K BTU furnace.
Village of Roscoe administrator Scott Sanders, who is also a landscape architect, had offered to create drawings for the initial landscaping work for the park, which is convenient since he also has responsibility for approving the plan. He expected to complete the drawings in a couple of days. Any changes made during construction will be submitted to the Township board for approval.

Highway Commissioner Steve Schreier reported that REBUILD Illinois (RBI) grants and Motor Fuel Tax (MFT) funds, not Township taxes, will pay for guardrail projects on White School Road and Middle Road. The $255,000 bid was $10,000 less than budgeted. Now that winter is over, his crew has replaced their plows with brooms and are sweeping up gravel from the roads to reuse later. IDOT has approved a storm water project, and he is waiting for Winnebago County to approve the funding, which should be routine.
On May 20, 2022, from 5:00-7:00 p.m., 122 American flags will be placed in the Roscoe cemetery. A couple of Boy Scout troops will help out.
The meeting began with approval of bills: $54,668 for the general fund and $53,042 from the road and bridge fund, of which $15,000 is an annual insurance payment.
Trustees agreed to engage Siepert & Company as auditor for the Township's finances. Siepert is charging $18,000 for the year, which is a 6% increase. The Township may go out for another bid next year.
With fans running in the back of the room, trustees approved a $6,350 bid from Total Plumbing and Heating for a 14 SEAR, 5 ton, single stage, Bryant air conditioner for the Township building. Putting it on the roof would cost $350 extra. Trustees noted, approvingly, that the company had only charged $3,350 for the furnace at the Cross house, of which the Historical Society had paid half.
