Pelicans have arrived at Nygren Wetland Preserve, in advance of Rockton Pelican Fest on May 21. If you want to see the wildlife, enter at the Wildlife Overlook, 3714 W. Rockton Rd., Rockton, IL, which is also the trail head for the Dianne Nora Nature Trail. The parking lot, overlook, and trail are open daily from sunrise to sunset.

Northern Illinois Toy Show and Life Church in Roscoe are teaming up to put on Street Market Extravaganza on Saturday, May 21. Besides a wide variety of vendors, there will also be food trucks, a DJ, and inflatables for the kids. It will also be a great opportunity if you have things to sell. The organizers promise, "Whether it’s cleaning out the garage, selling vintage toys or a small side business, this is the event for you. One park spot is $25 and two for $40." For more information, you can email northerniltoyshow@gmail.com or contact them through Facebook.

Besides regular reports from each school, Tuesday's Prairie Hill School Board meeting is scheduled to include a first reading of 7:10-AP1 Gender Support Policy. The meeting begins with public comment at 5:30 p.m.

We're working on a longer report on the problem of synthetic opioid use in Roscoe and Rockton. It's possible to overdose on fentanyl without even knowing that's what you took. This happened to dozens of people in Roscoe and Rockton last year and this year is looking even worse.

A new shop opened up last week at 11361 Main Street, at the former location of Board and Brush. Synergy Collective has already been selling online, at two Rockford stores, events such as Rockford City Market, and at the Female Energy Art and Energy Show at the Barn in Rockton. But now they have a permanent storefront in Roscoe, with eclectic and handmade gifts including macramé, jewelry, gemstones, and healing crystals. April workshop events include a Macramé Workshop, an Intro to Printmaking Workshop, Sound Bath Meditation, and a Yoga Mala Class. You get the idea.
