In the news: South Beloit building, the Ledges pool, Reindeer Drive, asphalt plant
South Beloit held a special city council meeting on Monday evening, October 30, 2023 to offer to buy an property at 449 Gardner Street. The property has been owned by Warner Electric, Altra Industrial Motion, and Regal Rexnord. The agenda also included approving a Professional Services Agreement with Fehr Graham Engineers to perform a Phase I Environmental Site Assessment for the property. According to the Beloit Daily News, the city council wants the property to become the new city hall.
Judge Lisa Fabiano rescheduled the next hearing on the proposed asphalt plant in Rockton to Nov 16, 2023 at 10 a.m, according to Attorney James Meason's office.
The Ledges Pool will be open next summer 2024 for the first time since 2022. Financial and organizational uncertainty, plus expensive repairs, kept it closed in 2023.
Their mission statement of the Ledges Pool Association (LPA) says, "The LPA is dedicated to providing a family centered, community pool. Our beautiful setting is enjoyed by members from the Stateline area. We offer a variety of social events for all ages, multiple levels of swim lessons, and a recreational swim team! The Ledges staff and board is focused on maintaining a safe and relaxing atmosphere."
The pool is located at 7063 McCurry Road in Roscoe IL, adjacent to the Ledges Golf Course. The public golf course, though it is not free, is managed by the Forest Preserves of Winnebago County. However, the Ledges Pool is a private membership-based community swimming pool, which the LPA leases from the Winnebago County Forest Preserves.
Membership fees for 2024 for the Ledges Pool Association will be:
- Family $550 ($450 if paid by 12/31)
- Individual $350 ($275 if paid by 12/31)
- Babysitter Fee $75 (sitter AND children must be present)
Prospective as well as returning members can mail their membership application [PDF] and check to the Ledges Pool Association, P.O. Box 37, Roscoe 61073.
Any and all donations are also appreciated. Donors and sponsors will be recognized on the Community Donor Board in the pool house.
The Harlem-Roscoe Fire Protection District is collecting winter weather gear for families in our community: new hats, gloves, coats and boots for all ages and sizes to be distributed in their annual Reindeer Drive. What is left will be donated to the Kinnikinnick School District.
The fire department will be taking donations through Friday, December 8, 2023. Items can be dropped off at Harlem-Roscoe Fire Station #1, 10544 Main St, Roscoe, IL, Monday through Friday 8 a.m. - 4 p.m.
