Hononegah victories over the weekend
Well done: Scholastic Bowl, musicians, math, cheer, swimming, wrestling, bowling
From the Hononegah Community High School administration:
Congratulations to the Hononegah Varsity Scholastic Bowl team for placing third in the NIC-10 regular season. Way to go, Grant Gouwens, Joseph Kasel, Ethan Butler, Sarah Yeager, Shane Levi, and Sebastian Wysocki.
What an exceptionally musical weekend for our All-State musicians. After arriving Wednesday evening in Peoria, the students spent two full days practicing, rehearsing, attending clinics and performances before they had their opportunity to shine. Nikolai Yun performed with the All-State Jazz Band while Noah Brockway and Wolfgang Vergara performed with the All-State Honors Jazz Band on Friday night. After two days full of rehearsals and then waking up Saturday morning for a 7:45am rehearsal, Audrey Pigott, Olivia Coleman and Addison Laumer settled in for their rehearsals and respective afternoon performances. Audrey and Addison performed with the All-State Chorus and All-State Band Respectively while Olivia Coleman performed with the All-State Honors Chorus. Mr. Kramper was also given the honor to conduct America the Beautiful at the Finale of the All-State Concert. Our All-State musicians did an amazing job performing with the top musicians from all over Illinois! You should all be proud. A big thank you goes out to Anita and Brad Bond for putting the balloons and notes of encouragement together for our students.
Congratulations to the Hononegah Math Team on their resounding win on Saturday at the 8-school Invitational held here at Hononegah. Hononegah Math Team members earned 20 of the 29 possible gold medals. We've listed all the winners, with more fun facts, in a companion article.
Congratulations to the varsity cheer team that competed this past weekend at the Belvidere Sectional. They placed 5th overall and earned their seventh state qualification. Their last appearance occurred in 2016 and will be joining Belvidere North as representatives for the NIC-10 conference. Good luck as they prepare for the IHSA state championships being held in Bloomington this Friday.
Hononegah Boys Swimming wrapped up a successful regular season last week with their two final meets before the postseason. At the JV conference, a number of swimmers swam large personal bests to cap their seasons including Collin Benkovich, Spencer Thoren and Ben Walker. Additionally, the Varsity team won their final invite of the season at the Beloit Memorial invite, thanks to strong depth and a number of events wins. The boys begin the postseason this Saturday with Fresh Soph conference at Harlem High School.
