Hononegah senior bowler Charlie Hunt is one of the Indian's most decorated athletes to ever walk the halls. He is a 2023 U.S. high school singles national champion and now he can add a state championship to his mantle. In 12 games last Saturday, Jan. 20, 2024, in Fairview Heights, IL, Charlie Hunt averaged 230.8 pins, taking home the title. He finished 2.5 pins ahead of the 2nd-place bowler.

As a team, Hononegah placed 9th in the state, with a team average of 195.1. The team consists of Michael Hommema, Xander Way, Caleb Dirkx, Charlie Hunt, Joh Lawrence, Tyson Williams, Lucas Wheeler and Team Manager Gordy Hays. The Indians were coached by Brad Sommer, Dennis Mowry, Trevor Williams and Terry Andreas.

The Indians really had a bounce-back tournament after barely making it to state with a 6th-place finish at the Rockford Jefferson sectional on Saturday, January 20, 2024. Bowling powerhouse Harlem came in 7th in state after winning at sectionals.

After graduation, Charlie Hunt heads to Rock Valley College -  which has been NJCAA DIII national bowling champion over 20 times - to bowl for the Golden Eagles next year. Congrats, Charlie on an incredible high school career.
