The weather didn’t cooperate in Roscoe on Saturday, December 14, 2024 for the 2024 Hometown Holiday & Merry Market. Rain persisted most of the day and evening, but plenty of families and Santa’s helpers brought the spirit of Christmas to Main Street District.

Visitors took advantage of a horse-drawn trolley and a ride on the SMTD bus for a warm and dry trip up and down Main Street.

New this year was the Merry Market in the Liberty Engineering lot on Bridge and Main Street. Food and drink huts were scattered among the dozens of lighted trees decorated by local youth groups, as well as the official Village of Roscoe Christmas tree.

Several area restaurants, including Whiskey Hotel Barbecue, Perfectly Season, Pietro’s and Mary’s Market offered a variety of food and drink choices. Louie’s Tap served non-alcoholic as well as adult drinks, including mulled wine, to ward off the chill.

Christmas music mixed with a little country and rock and roll rang out from the "When Pigs Fly" band on their portable stage.

Elev815 provided a “Holiday Hangout” for kids at the Harlem Roscoe Fire Station, where games and prizes, crafts, hot chocolate and treats were available.

A s’mores station was set up outside the Village Hall. Inside, children visited with Santa, and had their pictures taken with the Grinch.

The United Methodist Church was the place to go for Christmas music and a soup /chili supper. Choirs from Harlem High School and Middle School, Hononegah High School, Roscoe Middle School, Stephen Mack Middle School and Willowbrook Middle School performed in the sanctuary from 3 – 6 p.m., followed by the well-known professional quality Alleluia Quartet.

One of the favorite activities was the snowball fights (fake snow) in the lower level of the church throughout the day and evening.
