HD Jameson House and elev815 host multi business event
The event highlighted six small businesses.
The cozy Carriage House at the historic 1855 H D Jameson House in Rockton was filled with members of elev815 and their guests during the Multi Business Highlight event on Oct. 19. That featured six elev815 members who own small businesses in the Stateline area.
Elev815 board member Chuck Gilbert introduced the owners, who talked about how they got started and what their businesses have to offer.
Main Street Meat owners Jim and Amy King told the story of how their business began and how it has grown over the years. “Our kids urged us to open our own meat store,” Jim said. “The meat market in Main Street Square came up for sale, and we bought it 17 years ago.” The specialty meat market is located at 9515 N. 2nd St. in Roscoe. The King’s son Matthew is now the store manager and can be reached at 815-623-6328. The Kings treated members and guests to a variety of meats, cheese and vegetables for the elev815 event.

Michael McGinnis, editor in chief of Rockton-Roscoe News and an experienced web developer, talked about how important (and endangered) local news is today, and how the staff and readership of his online news source has grown since its beginning in April 2021. Erin Sturm, owner of Stateline Kids, described her business as a family-friendly community guide for events and activities in the Stateline area. Her business offers online event calendars, playground profiles, community guides, seasonal content and family-friendly fun.

Karen Arce represents Medicare 411, an independent health and life insurance agency. She is among the Medicare experts offering free resources for everyone. The business is based in Rockford. Although not in attendance at the Small Business event, Mark’s Pizza provided a variety of pizzas. The pizza and Italian food business is owned by Mark Walkie, 615 N. Blackhawk Blvd. in Rockton, 815-624-1007.
HD Jameson House is owned by Leanne Wright and her family. Built in 1855, the historic Airbnb is on the National Register of Historic Places. It sits on two acres of land at 900 N. Prairie St in Rockton. The Greek Revival home features an in-ground pool, and can accommodate eight people for short term rentals through Airbnb.
