Six candidates are running for four seats on the Hononegah Community High School School Board, with four incumbents, Joshua Ballard, Eric Flohr, Bob Geddeis, and Gayle Haab and two challengers, Anthony Jenkins and Darrell Polfliet. In April 2022, Gayle Haab applied to fill a vacancy on the Hononegah School Board. She went through the application and interview process and was selected. Her term expires April 1, 2025. She is now running for a full term and, if elected will serve through April 2029.

Gayle is a graduate of Hononegah and a retired teacher from the Kinnikinnick School District.

Her family are all alumni of HCHS, including her grandfather, brothers and sons Christopher and Nicolas Haab. Her father, John Shedd, served on the Hononegah School Board, and her husband Dale Haab taught math for 17 years at Hononegah. "Our youngest son and his wife are teachers at the school."

Gayle would like to make sure her grandchildren (and future students) receive the same quality education and experiences she had at HCHS.

As an educator, she brings 35 years of teaching experience. She has served on many local and state education boards and has volunteered many hours of community service, such as school functions, fundraising efforts, and the VetsRoll organization. She is a volunteer assistant helping transport veterans to Washington DC. She is currently the president of the Winnebago County Retired Teachers Association and serves on the Illinois Retired Teacher Association Board of Directors. “My career as an educator has influenced my decision to be a candidate for the Hononegah High School Board of education.”

Gayle was selected as a Golden Apple finalist. She received an “Those who Excel” award for outstanding educators and a Patriotic Citizen Award from the Roscoe VFW Post 2911 Woman’s Auxiliary,

During her current term on the school board, she is the chair of the education committee and served on the co-curricular committee.

“My deep roots as an alumnus and long-time community member have been a contributing factor at HCHS. I would like to continue the Hononegah legacy of excellence as one of the most outstanding districts in the region, state and nation.”
Gayle believes her career as an educator influenced her decision to be a HCHS Board member. “I believe I can contribute my experience as an educator and deep involvement in community service.”
