Rockford East Analise Adams and Hononegah Indian Jordan Dimke get ready for the opening tip.

The Hononegah Indians overwhelmed the Rockford East E-Rabs in the opening round game of the 2023-2024 IHSA girls basketball tournament from Rockford Auburn High School.

They seemed to be everywhere on the court. It almost appeared that they had 10 players on the court in white and purple. They led 19-5 at the end of the 1st quarter and had a huge 43-11 halftime lead. Junior Jordan Dimke had a huge opening half, scoring 10 points in both the first and 2nd quarters. Many of her baskets were near the bucket as her teammates did a great job finding her in the post when driving to the bucket.

Eleven different Indians scored in the game. Led by Dimke’s 24, followed by recent Southern Illinois commit for track & field/cross country Allyson Niedfeldt's 11 and junior wing Brooklyn Klabacha with 11 including three 3-pointers.

Even though the game was decided before halftime, the Indians defense never let up as the reserves came and continued the effort on the defensive side, only allowing 9 points after halftime and outscoring the Rockford East 36-9.

Next up for the Hononegah Indians are the Rockford Auburn Knights. The Knights were able to get past a very strong Jefferson squad 51-39. Game time is this Thursday February 15 at 7 p.m. from the Dolph Stanley Gym on the Rockford Auburn Campus.

Thank you to the IHSA and Hononegah head coach Jason Brunke for access and information for the story.
