Rockton Christmas Walk begins Friday, Dec. 1, 2023, with Christmas Tree Lighting at Settlers Park on Friday and the Lighting of Village Green Park and the Lighted Christmas Parade on Saturday. In her recent article, our reporter Marianne Mueller tells all about it.


Anticipating a reopening date of summer 2024, the Ledges Pool Association in Roscoe is offering large membership discounts if paid before the end of the year. Members will be able to invite guests for only $5 each. The association says they will have "expanded snack options" and "the infamous 'noodle game'." The pool is located at 7063 McCurry Road in Roscoe IL, adjacent to the Ledges Golf Course. Prospective as well as returning members must submit a membership application [PDF]. 


South Beloit is continuing a beautiful community tradition with its Holiday Tree Lighting on Friday, Dec. 1, 2023, at Nature At The Confluence, 306 Dickop Street. Free activities will be going on from 4:30 to 6 p.m. including bonfire and s’more making, unlimited hot cocoa (bring your own mug!), a luminary nature walk, holiday crafts, and family photo opportunities. The tree lighting ceremony begins at 5 p.m. followed by a caroling performance. Park behind M&M Dari Ripple on Charles Street and luminaries will help light your path to the building. The event is hosted by The City Of South Beloit, Nature At The Confluence, and South Beloit Public Library.


Rockton residents can pick up luminaria supplies at Village Hall, 110 E. Main Street, and the Walt Williamson Pool at Village Green Park, 115 E. Chapel Street. Park, courtesy of the Cronin family. As we light our luminaria Saturday, Dec. 2 along our sidewalks, Rockton will remember Katie Cronin, one of the original Christmas Walk volunteers who helped decorate and light up Village Green Park until her untimely death twenty years ago.


Every Monday, Fibs in Rockton, 105 W. Main St., is offering all you can eat shrimp. Is there a time limit? The staff says on social media, "Technically the special runs all day long." They open at 11 a.m.


The Rockton Lions are putting together baskets for the Wimpy's Fund auction on Dec. 1-2. Proceeds benefit needy families. Bidders could win holiday decor, restaurant gift cards, chocolate, rum, and cannabis accessories, or throw axes, smash things, gamble electronically... and the Rockton Police are giving away something too. That is, thanks to Maximum Axe Throwing, Smash Room & Golf Simulator, Kiss Glass, Jackpot Party Casino Community, and  Rockton Police for contributing.


Harlem-Roscoe Fire is hiring a full-time licensed paramedic, with a high school diploma, a drivers license, and PHTLS, ACLS, and PALS certification. Apply at HRFD Fire Station #1 at 10544 Main St. in Roscoe.


The Rockton Fire Protection District needs to fill a vacancy on their Board of Trustees, to serve until the April 2025 election. Candidates are expected to attend board meetings on the second Tuesday of every month at 7 p.m. Candidates may also be asked to participate in committee projects. Interested candidates shall provide a valid driver’s license with proof of residency (within the fire district boundaries) and a signed letter of interest no later than December 5, 2023.
