Colored Sands Forest Preserve

9 - 10 a.m. Free. Sponsored by the University of Illinois Chicago College of Medicine in Rockford (UICOMR). Community members, students, staff, and faculty are invited to hear some health tips and then take a walk along the recreation path at Colored Sands Forest Preserve & Bird Sanctuary (No dogs please). Meet at parking lot. Dr. Thomas Schiller, a UICOMR clinical assistant professor and UW Health family medicine physician, will give some health tips and lead this walk. [more details]


Jaime Cox Memorial Run 5K - Sat Oct 7 10:00 am

Roscoe Middle School

Year 6 of supporting and honoring Jaimie Cox. Come join us in Roscoe, IL for an active day, Jaimie's way!
Our nature based 5K Run/Walk or 2 mile walk will begin at Roscoe Middle School (RMS). The route proceeds west to the historic Stone Bridge Trail before turning south as you continue to pound the crushed limestone path. You will reach the halfway point, turn around and return to RMS.
*Please note that our course features a variety of running surfaces, including gravel. [more details]

Singer/songwriter Kristin Toon will be performing live at Best of Beloit, which is in South Beloit.
Kristin Toon from South Beloit has been singing since a very young age but taught herself how to play guitar at 17. Her influences include Alan Jackson, Patty Loveless, Martina Mcbride, U2 and more. Walk at your leisure to the featured graves where a guide will impart the interesting history behind its resident.
