Kathy Johnson loved caring for her outdoor critters

Kathy Lynn Johnson (Leisher) of Roscoe, IL was known to have an enormous heart and a willingness to do anything for her family and friends.

Kathy passed away on August 10, 2023 in Belvidere, IL. She was the daughter of William Garfield and Donna Mae Marie (Rollins).

Kathy was a graduate of Belvidere High School, class of 1969. She married Kurt D. Johnson on December 31, 1981. Together, Kathy and Kurt owned and operated Excelsior, Inc in Rockford, IL.

Kathy was a member of Rockford Country Club and spent many years traveling and golfing with her beloved Kurt. She enjoyed eating out with friends, watching her Chicago Cubs and caring for her yard. Kathy loved all animals especially her “outdoor critters.” She was known to have an enormous heart and willingness to do anything for her family and friends, although she had the reputation to be a bit feisty at times. She was loved by many.

She is survived by her son, Jason (Kelly) Young; step-children, Erik Johnson and Deanne Fletsch; grandchildren, Noah, Cooper, Jeremiah, Josiah and Jessica; and siblings, Ted (Diane) Leisher, Mark Leisher, Tim (Kelli) Leisher, and Deidre (Kevin) Doran. 

She was predeceased by her husband, parents, and stepson, Doug Fletsch.

Memorial services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Noah’s Ark Animal Sanctuary or Rockford Park District Foundation - Barb & Lloyd McWilliams Golf Foundation.
